Scarfy Thing

The Toronto Knitters Frolic is next Saturday and everyone who goes to the show is going to see skeins of yarn that they need to have but don't know what they are going to use them for. Remember this pattern when you get home. It's a great way to play with different colours. The pattern calls for fingering weight yarn but you can easily make it in any thickness.

This is not a knitting pattern, more a recipe for a creative endeavour. A collection of tips. It’s not difficult to knit, but it does require a bit of skill.

Pattern: Scarfy Thing (free from Hedgehog Fibres)
Yarn: Fingering weight

Take a look at the projects on Ravelry. There are some awesome shawls.
Beata, the designer, says:
'The piece is a truly improvised effort and even if I could write a row by row pattern, it would be perhaps more of a hindrance to the creative process. Arm yourself with 2 full skeins in similar colours and and a bunch of Sock Minis or sock yarn scraps in contrasting colours and off you go. Pick up stitches, change direction, cast on some stitches, knit a smaller then a bigger section. It's fun and freeing. If in doubt, improvise and add another colour. Then add one more colour! Yay!'
Yarn: two full skeins of Hedgehog Fibres Sock Yarn (pictured in Zephyr and Bramble + 11 Sock Minis).
Skills necessary: basic knitting skills and ability to improvise. SSK, K2tog, weaving in ends, picking up stitches.
It's time for a trip out in the mustang. Dairy Queen is calling me :)
